What Is A C-Type Goal?
Here are some of my my C-Type Goals & how they got me to Rio, on stage & with cash in the bank!
I’ve had many throughout my life and career…
Starting two businesses at the same time soon after graduating university, buying a brand new SUV, hiring my first business coach, traveling to and performing upon a 7 meter high float in Rio’s Carnival parade, reaching my first quarter million in annual revenue, performing on stage as a student at Burlesque L’amour, and since becoming a Burlesque L’amour Showgirl in 2025.
You see, I know these are all C-type goals, because when they first popped into my mind, they were:
- Something I really wanted vs just wished for;
- They lit a fire in my belly;
- They caused me to stretch and go beyond where I’d been before;
- So crazy and big that they scared and excited me at the same time;
- I had absolutely no idea HOW to reach them, I just knew I would.
… And THESE are the parameters that define a C-Type goal.
Why Are C-Type Goals Important?
Without goals, we’d honestly not get much done. Goals are usually born out of a desire to change a circumstance that is not ideal. Earn more money because you’re sick of being broke, lose some extra weight because you’re not able to run around with your kids. Quit smoking because you desire to be healthier. Start a non-for-profit because you think more should be done to help… whatever it is, allow yourself to make the current situation you’re experiencing (or witnessing) feel almost unbearable… then let the pursuit of improving that situation become your C-Type goal.
According to Corey Butler on LinkedIn, “C-Type goals are those that are rooted in a deep sense of purpose, and often require personal growth and development to achieve. These goals are not easily attainable, but the journey towards achieving them is what brings the greatest satisfaction.”
Goals are designed to make us grow. The bigger the goal, the bigger the growth, and if you ain’t growing, you’re going backwards. It is Universal Law.
“If it were easy, everyone would be doing it, and you wouldn’t have an opportunity” – Bob Parsons
Every big discovery, leap forward in technology or manifestation of human potential came from an idea that took root and became someone’s C-Type Goal.
- Athletes that spend 4 years preparing for the Olympics… C-Type Goal
- Sir Richard Branson establishing Virgin Airlines… C-Type Goal
- The light bulb… C-Type Goal
- The unique filming process invented for the Matrix movie… C-Type Goal.
Even starting your business was a C-Type goal at some stage – but now you need a new one.

Plan To ALWAYS Have a C-Type Goal
“If you don’t have a plan, you become part of somebody else’s plan.”– Terence McKenna. And you can bet that what someone else has planned for you isn’t that great. Having at least one big, juicy C-Type goal at all times is what keeps you focused and helps you avoid being suckered into someone else’s.
Having your sights set on a C-Type goal at all times, helps keep you motivated when things start to feel difficult or even boring. Most big goals are longer-term, months or even years in the making. They require a committed effort towards often tedious and repetitive tasks that can have you wondering “what the heck am I doing?” C-Type goals serve to remind the today-version-of-you what it is future-you is aiming towards.
Here’s a few cliche (yet powerful) quotes to bring this home…
- “A year from now you may wish you had started today.” – Karen Lamb
- “A goal is a dream with a deadline.” – Napoleon Hill
- “We aim above the mark to hit the mark.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
And one of my favourites, “Success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal or ideal.” – Earl Nightingale.
